What are pigment dispersions and how are they produced?
Pigment dispersions are very popular in various industries, particularly in the inks, plastics, paints and surface coatings industry. They can prove to be a clean, cost-effective way of colouring many products.
The basic idea is to take an organic or inorganic pigment and disperse it into a liquid solution made up of a resin (or surfactant) and solvent (or water or other).
The process involves a pre-mix where all the ingredients are mixed together using a high speed mixer. This is then passed through a bead mill (a horizontal or vertical chamber filled with tiny beads being agitated) until the required level of dispersion is achieved.
The amount of dispersion required will also depend on the ingredients being used and the end application. The product is then transferred into buckets or drums, dependent upon the customer's requirements.
Our main product types include: solvent based concentrates, water based concentrates, plasticiser concentrates and toll products which are made to a customer's own formulations.
